Japanese Culture time
君が代 Kimi ga yo ? Imperial Reign
(One of the worlds shortest National anthems)
Composed in 1880 by Hiromori Hayashi

The anthem is a Waka Poem from the Heian period, which was later sung to a melody from the Meiji Era

   
Kanji

君が代は
千代に
八千代に
細石の
巌となりて
苔の生すまで

Hiragana

きみ が よ は
ちよ に
やちよ に
さざれ いし の
いわお と なりて
こけ の むす まで
Furigana

Kimi ga yo wa
Chiyo ni
yachiyo ni
Sazare ishi no
Iwao to narite
Koke no musu made

 

English Translation

May your reign
Continue for a thousand years.
And last for eight thousand of generations
Until pebbles
Turn into boulders
And covered with Moss
