I found that I didn't experience a culture shock while I was living there - but I got one when I came home! After getting used to the Japanese way of life, then coming home to tall, barefooted and barely-dressed Aussies was a bit scary!

I have been back for a little over two months and everytime I get what passes for sushi here, I miss my niche of Japan. I don't know about your language skill but I find it actually intimidating to be expected to communicate fluently with everyone. Big retail stores are still overwhelming. Makes me want to go back to the land of sushi trains and tempura. Good luck adjusting

I can get what u mean because I too felt that way after coming back from Japan. Start missing their little quirks and oddities.
