Just wanted to check if any of you have been lately in Tokyo and if you know how much is the price you would have to pay for an apartment there, I know it depends a lot of the area where you would like to get the apartment, but I'm just trying to get an estimate.
I am planning to be a couple of months in Tokyo and i need to investigate this kind of things.

Gonna need a little more info. How many people? Just one bedroom? What type of accomodations, do you want just a closet-room (like tiny-tiny) or comfortable?

Oh, and the AREA. That makes a big difference. It's gonna be expensive.

Anywhere from 80,000-160,000 yen ($700-$1,400) a month. And the $700 range ones are unbearable.

Oh, and if you're gonna have a longer stay in Tokyo, you could save a few hundred by commuting only a few extra minutes (say extra 20 minutes).

Also, are you a student, or on business, or an english teacher? What type of apartment do you want? A guest house, or a full fledged apartment, a tiny living space, or a comfortable house? And how many people!!

You can get a pretty far greater apartment for that if you commute out an extra 20 minutes, heck even in Saitama or Kanagawa you'll save atleast $400/mo. If you know how to use metro systems, that may be a good option.

If you want to live comfortably and can't bargain hunt, then expect atleast $1,000/mo.

You should stay at a guest house. If you get an apartment you must pay anywhere from 3-6 months rent in fees, deposits, gift money...You won't get much if any back. It is very difficult to set up a regular apartment without help as well. If you are unsure about staying long term in Tokyo then your best bet is to use a guest house. I have a list of most of them in Tokyo and many across Japan. They will run you anywhere from 40,000yen-100,000yen most are in the 50,000-60,000 range. Sakura house is one of the more expensive ones. Take a look at my list you can get an idea.
